This year, GALUP CELEBRATES ITS 87th ANNIVERSARY. A short period in relation to the passing of time but a long, very long period for the business, developments and professional growth of our company.
Galup traces the history of a very special panettone: the FIRST LOW PANETTONE COVERED WITH PIEDMONTESE HAZELNUT ICING, which marked the start of an exciting and industrious business venture.
Today, the most eloquent confirmation of this commitment is reflected in the loyalty of admirers who choose Galup to celebrate the most significant occasions.
The city of the Galup
The GALUP PANETTONE made its debut in 1922 in Pinerolo, the ancient town, former capital of the Acaja family, dubbed "Pinarolium" by the Romans due to the beautiful pinewoods that covered the area.
Prepared for the first time in an ancient red brick oven on the corner between Via del Duomo and Via del Pino according to Pietro Ferrua's genial, exclusive recipe, the panettone soon scored a great success as a masterpiece of Italian confectionery.
Pietro and Regina, together
The history of this specialty is marked by the untiring efforts of the FERRUA family, first of all Pietro and Regina, then Fiorenzo and Giancarlo and today, the grandchildren.
Galup was distinguished from the outset by its low shape and crunchy icing of "Piedmontese hazelnuts", effectively dubbed by an advertising expression as the "The top part of the Panettone"; i.e. the exclusive icing and shape that distinguish it from the so-called "Milan" type panettone.
The name also contributed to decreeing its immediate success. Galup, in Piedmontese dialect, means "greedy". A fortunate inspiration of Regina Ferrua, Pietro's wife.
The renown of Galup spread first of all to Turin and then to Piedmont.
The old oven of Moussù Ferrua was no longer sufficient. As business expanded, the first industrial facilities were set up.
His Majesty's Royal Warrant
As in the case of all goods things prepared with skill and devotion, Galup was an immediate success. In 1937, the Ferrua firm was awarded the "Royal Warrant of Appointment", the most elite acknowledgement that could be obtained at that time.
The success of the brand
Spurred by the deeply-rooted link with the spirit of its early years, the company has continued to reinforce its original identity while, at the same time, upgrading its production systems and marketing strategies in order to consolidate a brand that is a symbol in the production of Panettoni.
Galup’s brand is the most significant example of this image and communication philosophy. The protagonist is the guide-product - the Galup Panettone – displayed with a slice just cut and surrounded by the faces of two children of yesteryear, evidently very happy to taste the panettone.
This representation was conceived in the Twenties by Mario Vignetta. Although restyled several times, the trademark still suggests all fragrance and flavours of its origin.
